G'day USA

What a big week we've had, where do I start...

We left Malta on Friday, 4 Jan, much to the dislike of Stephanie who I swear was close to locking us in our bedroom to keep us there! We had such a great time, it was hard to leave...thank you so much Steph, you made our time there super awesome!

We had a connecting flight where we stopped in Munich for a few hours. We then hopped on the plane to New York. Unfortunately, I found out later that my luggage didn't get on the plane as well. Cue nervous breakdown! Thankfully I am Miss Over Prepared and I packed some extra clothes and necessities in my carry on luggage. I survived by washing what I had overnight. Many people were telling me it was a great excuse to shop but the I was already over my luggage weight limit so whatever I bought I couldn't keep. After 5 days of (gasp) no make up and (double gasp) bad hair, my luggage arrived!

Anyway, we did heaps of things in the meantime. On our arrival night we had our first American cheeseburger (yu-um!!) and checked out Times Square. The next day we walked around midtown where Andrew finally got to see the Rockefeller Christmas tree ( he just missed it on his last trip to NY). The poor tree looked a little worse for wear and was obviously at the end of its festive life.

That night we went to a rib house called Dallas BBQ where we had a rack of ribs....ohhhhhh yum!!! We went back for more a few days later.

The next few days were filled with walking around and sightseeing, including: Central Park, top of The Rock, National Museum of Natural History, Museum of Modern Art, Wall St, Little Italy, China Town....just to name a few. We also visited Ground Zero, now known as the 9/11 Memorial Centre, which was just amazing (the way they've honored the victims with the water features in place of the towers) and a little overwhelming knowing what happened on that very spot. The security and regulations to get in we're very strict but it was worth it.

We tried going to the Statue of Liberty but thanks to Hurricane Sandy, we couldn't do this. I got a glimpse of it from far away. That will have to do....til next time!

We've also checked out this little thing called Broadway...wow! We saw Wicked on Tuesday night (can I just say that the Aussies do this way better!) and last night we saw Phantom of the Opera, it was fantastic. On the theme of musicals, we went to the movies to see Les Mis. That was an experience. We witnessed the most heated argument between a couple our age and some teenagers. It's hard to explain but let's just say it was a tiny problem (accidentally kicking a chair) that escalated in a way that jackets were being taken off in prep for a fight, there was a lot of 'hold me back or I'll kill her' and 'oh no she didn't!' and it took the teenagers' teacher to diffuse the situation. Hilarious! The movie was good by the way.

Yesterday we had our first diner experience...it was amazing, great food, great service, free refills all in the comfort of a booth.

Today we head off to Hawaii...hello warm weather!

We'd love to show you our pictures but I'm having trouble downloading them to the blog on the iPad or the iPhone (finally found an Apple weakness!). I'll keep trying over the next few days. Stay tuned!

Love A & J xo

Malta Mania

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

So we haven't posted in a while but it's not because we're lazy, we've just been having such a great, jam-packed time that we haven't had a chance to rub our fun in everyone's faces (yes we were thinking of all of you going back to work yesterday!).

We've done so much in the last two weeks, it would take forever to write about it all, so here is a brief recount of what we've done, but really the pictures speak for themselves.

We arrived in sunny Malta on 21 December and enjoyed some specially made baked pasta (Argene, I know that's not spelt right!).  Andrew ate nearly the whole tray himself!  We then spent the next couple of days sightseeing, helping prepare for Christmas gatherings and catching up on the sleep we lost during Contiki!

Christmas Eve was our lovely host's birthday so we went to an amazing restaurant for lunch.  I tried Duck while Andrew went straight for the rabbit.  I personally don't eat anything I ever owned as a pet, so in honour of Rosie and Bugsy, I refuse to eat rabbit.

On Christmas Day we visited Uncle Angelu and Maria and their family, and has some yummy Maltese food.  For dinner, Steph prepared another yummy feast of turkey, vegetables, rice and cauliflower gratin - hello calories.

Since Christmas we have visited a heap of places from the Catacombs to the Silent City to Gozo to some amazing cafes/restaurants.  Here are some pictures:
